As we move into the new year, we at Dark Sky Printing like to look at things we did last year, or even for the last 20 years, and think “What could we do better?” Laminated menus are one of those things that we think could be done better.

There are several problems with laminated menus:
1) They’re shiny and hard to read when there are overhead lights.
2) They’re horrible for the environment. All that plastic that just goes in the landfill.
3) They’re EXPENSIVE to produce and make it hard to change your menu.

Our answer to both is durable paper menus. Not just card stock, but card stock made for tough environments like machine shops, art studios and, yes, even restaurant tables. The paper itself is water and grease resistant, yet it feels like soft, smooth paper. And, even better, it prints like high quality card stock. Images are clear and text is crisp and easy to read.

Sure, menus made with this paper won’t be as durable as a piece of paper sandwiched between two thick pieces of plastic, but they won’t be as expensive, they will look way better and they could be printed in smaller batches allowing for mid-season changes to the menu!
